ジョン・アデアとは

ジョン・アデア（John Eric Adair）は、リーダーシップに関する世界有的権威です。
その実績は、1950年代までリーダーシップの通説であった「リーダーシップは生まれながらにして持つ先天性のものである」という資質論から、高業績のグループおよびリーダーの行動様式を研究することで、一定の共通した行動特性を見出し「リーダーシップは実践と経験によって身に付けることができる技術である」と、これまでの常識を覆したことです。
英国サリー大学で、リーダーシップについて初めて教鞭を握りました。
ビジネス、軍事、その他のリーダーシップに関して40冊以上の書籍を出版され、18以上の言語に翻訳されています。

ここではその人物像、経歴などをご紹介します。

１）経歴・実績

・1934年　イングランド出身
・1952年　ロンドンセントポールスクール卒業、歴史研究会の部長を務めリーダーシップを探究する
・1953〜55年　兄の影響を受け英国陸軍（スコットガード）へ入隊。アラブ軍区の部隊へ配属され最前線となるエルサレム地区の副官となる
・1955年　民間の水産会社へ移り、トロール船の船乗りとなる
・1956〜59年　ケンブリッジ大学
・1961〜67年　英国王立サンドハースト陸軍士官学校にて教鞭
　1962年　士官向けにリーダーシップ（フィールドリーダーシップトレーニング）教育を行う
・1966年　ロンドンキングスカレッジ大学修士
・1971年　オックスフォード大学博士
・1969〜73年英国産業協会（The Industrial Society)のリーダーシップ主幹としてイギリス産業界、ビジネス界、公共団体へリーダシップ教育を行う。
この時期にAction Centred Leadership（ACL）実践型リーダーシップが確立され今日においても実施されている
・1979〜84年　英国サリー大学にて世界で初めてのリーダーシップ研究の教授
　技術系の学生にリーダーシッププログラムを実施する。この時期、屋内でのACLプログラムの開発がなされる。
　サリー大学では現在でもリーダーシッププログラムは実施されている
・1981〜86年ジョン・ハーベイ卿 ICI社長と
・1990〜2000年エクセター大学教授
・2001年　ACLが英国陸軍のほか、英国海軍、空軍においてもアデアFunctional Leadershipとして導入される
・2006年〜現在　ウィンザーリーダーシップ（リーダーシップ公益財団）のフェロー（https://www.windsorleadership.org.uk/fellows）
・2009年〜現在　国連システムスタッフ大学にてリーダーシップ教育の主幹教授

２）人柄

アデア先生とは、2013年と2015年にロンドン郊外にある先生のご自宅でお目にかかり、リーダーシップについてご指導を受け、語り合った。
素朴な質問にもこころよく丁寧にご教授いただいた。
リーダーシップの核心部分になると老師の真摯な眼差しに心を奪われた、そんな英国紳士である。
